First Grade

I graduated from the University of South Alabama in 2012 with my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. My degree was a dual certification, which allows me to teach both general education and special education. Since graduating, I have yearned to grow as an educator so that I can better meet the needs of my students. In July of 2016, I began my journey at Grand Canyon University to pursue my master's degree. My focus is in Literacy with a concentration on elementary education. I anticipate completing this degree in April of 2018.

I graduated from the University of South Alabama in December of 2012. Unfortunately, it was difficult to secure a full time position since the school year was half way through. In an attempt to get my "foot in the door" in the teaching profession, I was a substitute teacher. During this time I accepted a position to complete a long-term sub for a teacher out on maternity. This afforded me the opportunity to teach in a classroom and gain valuable experience.

Near the beginning of the next school year, 2013-2014, I accepted a position to be an a special education teacher at Meadowlake Elementary School. I learned how to effectively assist students who had exceptionalities that challenged them academically. Longing to be back in the school I completed my student teaching with, I accepted a second grade position with W.C. Griggs Elementary for the following school year. I only taught one year of second grade at Griggs and had to resign. My husband was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado.

We arrived in Colorado in late September of 2015. Again, I was trying to secure a teaching position after the school year started. Instead of waiting for the next school year to begin, I worked on the army base at a school-age center where I was the Homework Tech. I worked with students before and after school to assist them with their homework. While I was unable to work directly with students on a full time basis, it did allow me to work with the community and assist students with their educational journey.

Early 2016, I accepted a position to teach 4th grade in a local Colroado Springs elementary school. I acted as the gifted and talented resource teacher for my school. After the 2016-2017 school year, my husband completed his contractual duties with the army and we returned to Mobile, Alabama.

I have returned to the school that I fell in love with in 2011 and am teaching first grade. This is my first year teaching first graders, but I am very excited.

My name is Lisa Davis. I was born in New York, but grew up in Mobile, AL. I am the youngest child with one older sister. I am married to a wonderful man named Jonathan. We do not have any human children, but we do have two fur babies that we adore. Our oldest four-legged baby is Sterling. She is a silver lab. Our youngest dog is Chewie. He is a chocolate lab. One day we will start a family of our own, but for now we have two labrador retrievers who have stolen our hearts.

This is my fourth year teaching. I spent most of my professional years at W. C. Griggs Elementary, if you include student teaching. While I do love to root for my alma mater, the USA Jags during football season, my favorite football team is Alabama.
