I received a BS degree in education from the University of South Alabama and a masters degree in School Counseling from the University of West Alabama.

I am presently a member of the Alabama Counselors Association, Alabama School Counselor Association and the American School Counselor Association.

 



Experience

 

 This will be my twelveth year as an elementary school counselor in the Mobile County Public School System. This will be the ninthth year that I have had the privilege of being the counselor at W. C. Griggs Elementary School.

Previously I taught Art in the Charleston Public School System in Charleston, SC; First Grade in a private school in Harbor City, CA; and Third Grade in a private school in Mobile, AL.

Your Griggs School Counselor:

  • Conducts individual counseling with students in areas of need.
  • Conducts small group counseling with students in areas of educational, career, or personal/social needs.
  • Conducts classroom lessons in areas of character education, career awareness, and academic and personal/social needs.
  • Coordinates the career-awareness program of the school.
  • Acts as an on-going advocate for students.
  • Consults with parents on students’ problems and concerns as needed or requested.
  • Consults with community resources.
  • Participates in Professional Development Activities
  • Consults with school or system staff about issues, problems, and concerns involving students, as needed or requested.
  • Serves as a consultant on the student support team, as appropriate.
  • Serves as a member of the school aCIP team.
  • Assists teachers by providing specific recommendations to help students who have learning and/or behavioral difficulties.
  • Follows-up on referrals from teachers, parents, and administrators where specific action is requested for academic, behavioral, or personal reasons.
  • Affiliates with professional organizations.
  • Attends appropriate conferences and workshops.
